12. Symbols of Christ and Christianity

"What symbols are used for both Christ and his people y is a frequent question. There are six symbols used for both Christ and his people. 1. A BRANCH. For Christ, in Isa_11:1*4, "A branch out of his roots shall bear fruit," and "with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked;" in Zec_6:12-13, Heb_3:1-4. Isa_4:1-6, Zec_3:8, Jer_23:5, Jer_33:15-16. For his People. Joh_15:5, "Ye are the branches;" Isa_60:21, "The people also shall be all righteous, the branch of my planting;" also, Rom_11:16, Psa_80:11, Psa_80:15. 2. LIGHT. For Christ. In Joh_8:12, Jesus spake, "I am the light of the world;" also, in Joh_9:5, Luk_2:32, and 1Jn_1:5, "God is light" For his People. Php_2:15, "Among whom ye are seen as lights in the world," Mat_5:14, Eph_5:8, Act_13:47, Isa_42:6, Pro_4:18. 3. A STONE. For Christ in 1Pe_2:4, 1Pe_2:6-8, "A living stone," "A chief corner-stone," "the stone which the builders rejected," "a stone of stumbling;" also, Psa_118:22, Eph_2:20, Mat_21:42. For his People. 1Pe_2:1-25 "Ye also as living stones are built up a spiritual house;" also, Eph_2:21-22. 4. A TEMPLE. Used for Christ in Rev_21:22, "And I saw no temple therein for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are the temple thereof;" also, Joh_2:19, Joh_2:21. For his People. 1Co_3:16-17, "For the temple of God is holy which temple ye are," and 1Co_6:19, 2Co_6:16. 5. A SUN. 'For Christ. Psa_84:11, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield;" also, Mat_4:12, Rev_21:23, Rev_22:5. For his People. Jdg_5:31, "Let them that love thee be as the sun;" also, Mat_13:43. 6. A STAR. For Christ. Rev_22:16, "I am the bright and morning star," 2Pe_1:1, "Until the day dawn and the day-star arise in your hearts;" also, Num_24:17. For his People. Dan_12:1-3, "And they that be wise shall shine," "and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."
