0143. The Love of God–The Gift of His Love
The Love of God–The Gift of His Love
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son" (Joh_3:16).
If we possess the "love of God" we must be willing to give our son, or sons; our daughter, or daughters.
The first desire of one who loves is to express his love. God loved the world, and gave His Son. "I speak to prove the sincerity of your love."
What a shame for one to lead some missionary society, to head some missionary organization, to speak on some missionary program or even to be a member of a "missionary" church; and yet to refuse to give their own son or daughter for the souls of men they profess to love!
There is a good deal of cant and display in much of our supposed missionary zeal. It looks nice to figure in missionary meetings; it sounds heroic to speak of missionary work; but it is quite a different thing to possess the love of God toward a lost world and to give a son.
Dr. Torrey tells of how he, in a guest room of the Moody Bible School was fighting it through with God, concerning the going of his own son to China. Finally his eye caught a motto on the wall: "God had but one Son, and He gave Him to be a missionary." Immediately the sky was cleared, and Dr. Torrey with gracious victory, gladly yielded his son for China.
Let us love, and loving, let us consecrate our sons to the work of God, at home or abroad, anywhere, as God may lead.
"Speed away! speed away on your mission of light,
To the lands that are lying in darkness and night;
‘Tis the Master’s command; go ye forth in His Name,
The wonderful Gospel of Jesus proclaim.
Take your lives in your hand, to the work while ’tis day,
Speed away! speed away! speed away!
"Speed away! speed away with the life-giving Word,
To the nations that know not the voice of the Lord;
Take the wings of the morning and fly o’er the wave,
In the strength of your Master the lost ones to save.
He is calling once more–not a moment’s delay!
Speed away! speed away! speed away!"
