Moses Forsook

"By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king" (Heb_11:27, f. c.).

The word "forsook" brings before us the putting into practice of the decision of the mind. Moses "refused" and Moses "chose" and Moses "accounted" and Moses "was looking"–all of this was the action of the mind and of the will; it would have amounted to nothing had he not acted upon his decisions.

Illustration: It is said that, in a certain prayer meeting, some man was speaking something like this: "My brethren, I aim to be a better man; I aim to be more faithful in attendance at the house of God; I aim to give more money to the cause of Christ; I aim, I aim, I aim."–Suddenly, some one in the audience who loved to hunt, cried out excitedly, "Fire, brother, fire."

Moses practiced in his life what he purposed in his heart. Moses forsook Egypt–this is the final test. The prodigal son said in his mind: "I will arise and go to my father." Then he put into practice his promise and "he arose and came to his father." God has called us to a life of separation from the world, we must forsake Egypt, we must go outside the camp and bear His reproach.

Illustration: Never will we forget when Allen Fort, Jr., and T. F. Callaway, the first, a solicitor of his county, and the second, a promising young lawyer, came to us and said, "We want to preach the Gospel." These young men had both passed through the same experience that confronted Moses. Eternity alone can reveal just what it meant to them to take their stand. But they forsook all and followed Christ. To-day one of these men is pastor of the First Baptist Church, in Nashville, Tennessee, and the other is pastor of the Baptist Tabernacle, in Chattanooga.

Who will forsake all and follow Christ? Who will gladly say:

"Take the world but give me Jesus,

That dear Friend Who loves me so:

Gladly, all I leave to follow Jesus,

Through this world below."
