0198. Samson's Strength Restored

Samson’s Strength Restored

"Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven" (Jdg_16:22).

1. Our first thought is a solemn one. Stop and think of the many days that must have elapsed between the time that Samson lost his power, and the time that his power was restored. What darkened days and months of sorrow and of heartache! Know, therefore, that it is an "evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God." One never wanders from God, but that he pays the price, in bitter tears.

2. Next let us think of Samson coming back to God. His hair began to grow, and so did his grip on God begin to grow. He was daily learning that the world was vanity, and that its seeming glories were no more than the mirage of the deserts.

We praise God that there is a possibility of the wanderer coming back to God. Ephraim may return, but Ephraim must take with her words, and say, "Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously; so will we render unto Thee instead of bullocks, the calves of our lips."

When a prayer like this is made, then the Lord will heal their backslidings, and love them freely.

3. Let us mark the prayer of Samson: "And Samson called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray Thee, only this once, O God."

David too, made his prayer unto God, and confessed his sin. And the Lord heard him, and forgave him. David then laid himself down and slept; he awoke and the Lord sustained him,
