Daniel, the Faithful Man

The child is truly the father of the man. As the acorn holds within its bosom the mighty oak; so does the youth hold within his bosom the larger life and destiny of the man that he will become.

Daniel is one of the few characters of the Bible who stands forth above reproach. He was a manly man; he was a Godly man.

How different is the story of Daniel a man who refused to compromise in any moral issue to the story of the young man, which follows:

Illustration: "Sir, I came into your service uncorrupt in principles and in morals, but the rules of your house required me to spend my evenings at places of public entertainment and amusement in search of customers. To accomplish my work in your service I was obliged to drink with them and join with them in their pursuit of pleasure. I went with them to the theater and the billiard table, but it was not my choice. I went in your service; your interest required it. I have added thousands of dollars to the profits of your trade, but at what expense you now see and I know too well. You have become wealthy, but I am poor indeed, and now this cruel dismissal from your employ is the recompense I receive for a character ruined and prospects blasted in helping to make you a rich man."

Daniel never allowed the affairs of Babylon to hinder him in his service to God. He put Him first and kept Him first.

Illustration: Queen Elizabeth asked a merchant to go on business for the crown. When he remonstrated, that his business would suffer; the queen replied: "You take care of my business, and I will take care of yours." He obeyed, and served his queen, and Queen Elizabeth turned great volumes of business toward him, which made him a merchant worth the while.

Daniel served God faithfully and God ever honored Daniel.
