0265. Daniel Was a Man Who Worshiped God
Daniel Was a Man Who Worshiped God
"Daniel * * his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before God" (Dan_6:10).
There are several important features in Daniel’s attitude to God.
1. He walked in unbroken communion with the Lord. Three times a day he prayed. This was his custom. Once, when deeply burdened concerning his people, he stepped aside from his busy court life, and spent twenty-one days in continued prayer and supplication.
Many of us can scarcely give God ten minutes a day, but Daniel, upon whom so many responsibilities rested, found time to pray.
2. He gave God the glory of every achievement. He claimed no virtue in himself. When King Darius cried into the lions’ den: "O Daniel, servant of the Living God, is thy God Whom thou servest continually able to deliver thee from the lions?" Daniel replied, "O king, live for ever." "My God hath sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths."
Daniel gave God the glory.
3. He believed God implicitly. In Dan_6:23 we read, "So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no hurt was found on him because he believed God." In Heb_11:23 we read of the faith that "stopped the mouths of the lions."
Daniel never doubted God.
4. He knew God intimately. The God of Daniel was not a God afar off. Daniel walked with God, as Noah walked with God. He had the Lord alway before his face.
No wonder that Daniel was strong and did exploits; for, the people who know their God, always do.
5. He was a man greatly beloved. An angel fresh from the presence of God touched Daniel, he said unto him, "O Daniel, a man greatly beloved" (Dan_10:11). The marginal reading is "greatly desired," or, "greatly delighted in."
Thus Daniel stands before us honored of men and loved in Heaven.
