As Children We Will Soon Be Going Home

"For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and by Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto Glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings" (Heb_2:10).

Thus far, we have never been home. Down here we are "strangers" and we are in a strange land.

"Here is our body pent,

Absent from Him we roam,

Yet, daily pitch our moving tent,

A day’s march nearer home."

All we have down here is a lighted pathway through this world. Our citizenship is in Heaven. Up there, we are laying up our treasures; up there we are setting our affections.

No wonder Paul said: "I have a desire to depart and be with Christ," for he knew that to be with Christ was to be "at home with the Lord."

"My Heav’nly Home is bright and fair;

Nor sin, nor death, can enter there:

Its glitt’ring tow’rs the sun outshine;

That Heavenly mansion shall be mine.

I’m going home, I’m going home!

I’m going home, to die no more."

How our own heart was stirred after nearly two years of traveling and preaching in South America, to at last turn our face toward our earthly home. We came more than five thousand miles by sea, and then more than a thousand by land, and when at last we neared our home in Texas, what joy filled our soul. But we have never yet been to our eternal Home, our Heavenly abiding place; we have never yet seen our Saviour’s face, nor have we beheld the Father; we have never seen the glories that await us–what will it be over there!
