365. Four Remarkable Prayers

There are four prayers mentioned in Mark 5.

1. The prayer of the demon-possessed not to be tormented—Mar_5:6, Mar_5:7.

2. The prayer of the demons to enter the swine—Mar_5:12.

3. The prayer of the Gadarenes that Christ would depart out of their coasts—Mar_5:17.

4. The prayer of the emancipated one to be with Christ—Mar_5:18.

All the prayers were answered except the last. God often denies His people what He grants to others. Christ gave the demons what they desired, and the swine were the means of landing them into the sea. When men and demons give themselves up to sin He leaves them alone in their sins, and thus gives them up to judgment—Rom_1:23-24, Rom_1:26, Rom_1:28.
