38. What Is the Meaning of "Mizpah"?

Mizpah, or Mizpeh, was the name of several localities in Old Testament history. The word means "a watch-tower," and in literature the whole of the beautiful remark made by Laban to Jacob (Gen_31:49) has been included in its meaning: "The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent one from the other."
