The Character of Saul–He Was High in His Aspirations

"What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ" (Php_3:7).

Saul was by no means a man of low ideals; he was ambitious, he sought the very highest mark of attainment; he had many things he counted gain. He wanted the very best that his religion and his nation afforded.

All sinners are not given to wallowing in the mire; many men and many women who have never been saved, are seeking the very best morally, educationally, and religiously, that the world affords.

We read of Naaman (see 1Ki_5:1), that he was a mighty man with his master, and honorable; he was also a mighty man of valor, but, he was a leper.

Sinners, who are moral and upright; sinners, who are clean and honorable, are sinners still. The greatest sin of all sins is putting Christ Jesus under your feet; it is sinning against the light; it is refusing obedience to the Son of God.
