The Steps That Led to Saul’s Conversion–The Vision of the Risen Christ
"And Saul said, Who art Thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus Whom thou persecutest" (Act_9:5).
As Saul journeyed a light brighter than the noonday sun shone about him. He was stricken down to the ground, and he heard a voice saying: "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?"
Then it was, that Saul got his first real glimpse of the risen Christ. He was astonished, he was afraid. He cried, "Who art Thou, Lord?" Then Saul saw that the whole course of his life was wrong; that every conception of his heart was wrong; that every effort of his life was wrong. He had thought once, that he was fighting for God; now he saw that he was, in truth, fighting against God. He had once thought that he was persecuting misguided, fanatical individuals, who were seeking to tear down his Jewish faith; now he awoke to the fact that he was in reality persecuting the Lord Jesus Himself.
Saul had accepted the rabbinical teaching of his day. He considered that Christ was an impostor, crucified for His blasphemy; crucified because He had claimed to be equal with God. Saul doubtless believed the rabbi’s false report of the resurrection; he thought that the disciples had stolen the body of the crucified Nazarene.
At any rate, every vestige of uncertainty about those things was now gone. He had heard the Lord’s voice, and Jesus Christ as God’s Son, was revealed to him.
