0426. Paul at Ephesus
Paul at Ephesus
Paul went into the city of Ephesus and preached the Word of God. He began his work in the synagogue of the Jews, and when persecution became too great there, he transferred his preaching place to the school of one, Tyrannus.
Ephesus had a wonderful revival. A revival that continued with daily preaching, for two years and three months. A revival that saw many saved and many confessing the Lord. It must have stirred the city when some $10,000 worth of books and curious arts, marks of heathen worship, were burned before all men.
What is needed to-day is a return to Apostolic methods and to the Apostolic message. We hear much about adapting our message to the new conditions of the twentieth century; much about the preaching of a social gospel. That is just what the church does not want.
What we do want is a new emphasis upon the work of the Holy Spirit, and a new emphasis upon the great doctrines of the Gospel of grace.
Churches need to know their helplessness unless they have received the Holy Ghost in His matchless power and blessing. Let us not think for a moment that success in Christ’s work is at all dependent upon men, machinery and money.
