The Prevailing Gospel

"So mightily grew the Word of God and prevailed" (Act_19:20).

Now we can sum up the work of Paul at Ephesus.

1. He goes into Ephesus and seeks the baptism of the Spirit upon the few believers who lived there.

2. He begins to preach the Word of God, and only the Word.

3. The very demons acknowledge Paul’s power and ministry,

4. Many believe.

5. Many confess.

6. Many show their deeds.

Now we come to the final word–"So mightily grew the Word of God and prevailed."

Everywhere there are churches and pastors who would like to see the Word of God grow and prevail. Then let us follow the same method and deliver the same message that Paul used in Ephesus.

The Word of God is a word of power. Preach the Word.

"As the snow cometh down and the rain, and watereth the earth and maketh it to bring forth and bud * * so shall My Word be."

"What is the chaff to the wheat? said the Lord. Is not My Word as a fire and as a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?"

"For the Word of God is quick and powerful."

We know that to-day satan is filling the air with doubts concerning the Word; that the thorns of pleasure and of the cares of this life are springing up to choke the Word; that the birds of the air are seeking to pick up the Word. Nevertheless preach the Word.

Preach the Word in the power of the Spirit. No matter if the devil is active in seeking to overthrow the faith, we have this assurance: "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, then the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."

We need not expect the world to be saved, nor the Word to prevail in the sense of any general acceptance of its truth, but we can expect to see the Bible operate in power in breaking down the strongholds of satan.

When the Word of God is preached in the Holy Ghost and power something must happen, and something that will glorify God and bring sinners to salvation will happen.
