441. Hope

How Paul plays upon the grace of ‘‘hope.” “Hope of the promise,” “hope to come,” “hope’s sake.” The hope centres in three things—the death, resurrection, and coming of Christ—Act_23:6; Act_26:6-7; Act_28:20.

1. These are the objective realities of the Gospel—1Th_4:13-18.

2. The subjective grace of expectancy is also referred to as the incentive to serve God—1Th_1:9.

3. The objective facts of truth are the power to create the subjective grace within, even as the steam in the engine causes the train to run on the lines.
