0455. A Defiled Conscience
A Defiled Conscience
"Unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled" (Tit_1:15).
In the days of Noah, the imaginations and the thoughts of the hearts of the people were only evil continually. When people do not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gives them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient.
The depths to which one will go seems almost unbelievable. Many will stoop to deeds that are beneath the beasts of the field.
One who resists his conscience until his conscience becomes evil and is defiled, will revel in all kinds of foul shame.
The noxious weeds of the swamp grow rapidly and coarsely, and so does he who has developed a defiled conscience hasten his downward day.
When conscience is crushed, with evil defiled,
When sin rules the heart, and Christ is reviled,
Who can save you, and wash you, and make you His child?
Who can hush the mad tempest, the waves dashing wild?
Only Jesus.
