The Threefold Pledge of Security

"Thou art my hiding place; Thou shalt preserve me from trouble; Thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah" (Psa_32:7).

How blessed it is that when the Godly pray unto the Lord, He may be found. And better still, God will not permit the floods of great waters to come nigh unto those who confess their sins. To the one who is forgiven and restored; to the one in whose spirit there is no guile, God promises three things.

1. "Thou art my hiding place." One of the most precious of songs is "Rock of Ages."

"Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the Blood,

From Thy riven side which flowed,

Be of sin, the double cure,

Save me from its guilt and pow’r."

In the Word of God we read, that a man shall be "a covert from the tempest;" and "the shadow of a great rock in a weary land." How blessed the shelter! There is a time coming when God will break forth in wrath against all unrighteousness. Romans the 2d chapter describes the coming storm. The man who despises the riches of God’s mercy, and forbearance and long-suffering; the man who hardens his impenitent heart, is treasuring up wrath against the day of wrath, and the revelation of the righteous judgment of God. How wonderful it is, that those of us who have fled to Christ and have hid within the Rock of Ages, are secure from that storm.

2. "Thou shalt preserve me from trouble;" there is an era of trouble lying ahead of this old earth. Yet, to those who trust in Him, there will be rest. Should we pass through the floods, they shall not overwhelm us; should we pass into the fire, we shall not be burned. The three Hebrew children were no more preserved from the flames, than those who trust Him will be preserved from trouble.

The one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High; the one who rests under the shadow of the Almighty; the one who says of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress," that one shall be preserved from trouble. God will deliver him from the snares of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover him with His feathers. A thousand shall fall at his side, and ten thousand at his right hand, but it shall not come nigh unto him.

3. "Thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance." Satan may beset us behind and before, He may endeavor to overwhelm us; but, the Lord our God, Who never slumbers, Who never sleeps, will compass us with shoutings of victory.

The Book of Acts describes how God gives present deliverance to the ones who put their trust in Him. There is, also, a day coming when the whole Church shall be delivered. The Lord will descend from Heaven with a shout, those in Christ shall be caught up. Then will the air rend once more with shoutings of deliverance! Satan will be cast down, the heavens above will be cleared of satanic domination, and the saints will rest, in peace, with Christ. Blessed deliverance!

The one forgiven and restored,

Has found a "hiding place;"

"Songs of deliverance" ascend

Unto the God of grace.
