No one should judge a picture, until the finished production is placed upon the wall. No one should judge the lot of the wicked, until he has come to the ending of his way. No matter how roseate the present picture of sin may be, the end thereof is death. No matter what sin may promise in its beginning, when it is finished it bringeth forth death. The path of the wicked concludes in destruction. Their every hope is gone. Their every joy is darkened. Eternal miseries await them, in the regions of the damned.
David said, "My steps had well nigh slipped" when I saw the "prosperity of the wicked." But he added, "Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end."
"Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
"How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors."
Let the man of this world remember that if he will walk with the wicked, he must weep with them; if he will join hand in the sowing, he must partake in the reaping. The wicked may grow as the grass, and flourish; but they will also be cut down as the grass. They may be green, as the herb in the spring time; but they will wither as the herb in the winter. They may draw out their sword against the righteous now, but the Lord will laugh at them, and press His sword into their hearts, by and by. The wicked may, for a while, become fat in their feastings; but they shall utterly consume away as smoke, in that day that God sends famine upon them. The wicked may spread out as the tree spreads out its branches; but he will pass away and be destroyed, and cut off, in the day of the wrath of the Lamb.
How soon will the wicked be broken,
Cut off, without further delay;
The Lord in His wrath will consume them,
They’ll perish and soon pass away.
