A Study of Psalms 45

The King (Psa_45:1).

The King Described (Psa_45:2).

The King at War (Psa_45:3-5).

The King Enthroned (Psa_45:6).

The King’s Delight (Psa_45:7).

The King’s Wife (Psa_45:9).

The King’s Daughter (Psa_45:10-11,Psa_45:13-14).

The Companions of the King’s Daughter (Psa_45:12,Psa_45:14).

We have before us one of the most beautiful descriptions of Jesus Christ as Bridegroom and as King to be found in the Word of God.

The scene is a description of a noble Warrior-king riding gloriously to victory and sharing His victory with His Queen.

The chapter has its time setting in the future. It portrays a picture of Jesus Christ, not as He was among men; not as He is at His Father’s right hand; but, as He will be when He returns to take the throne of David.

It is sheer folly to try to make the 45th Psalm historical and to seek to rob it of its prophetic setting. The Psalm is not only Messianic, but it is Kingly.
