0510. The King Enthroned
The King Enthroned
"Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: The sceptre of Thy Kingdom is a right sceptre" (Psa_45:6).
It is scarcely necessary to go beyond the chapter to satisfy one’s mind that this passage speaks of Jesus Christ and His earthly Davidic throne. Should any one doubt it, let such an one read with us what the Spirit says in Heb_1:6-9 :
"And again, when He bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him. * * But unto the Son, He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Thy Kingdom."
Hebrews thus establishes the fact that the throne is after the first-born Christ, (the Christ raised from the dead) comes again. After He comes again, (the second time) into the inhabited earth, the Christ (Who had already come once) will take the scepter of His Kingdom.
The promise that Christ’s throne is the Davidic throne, is established in many Scriptures. We mention two:
Isa_9:6 : "For unto us a Child is born, * * upon the throne of David shall He sit."
Luk_1:32 : "And the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David."
Hail His appearing! Kingdom nearing!
Righteously He comes to reign,
His throne assuming–none presuming,–
Shout aloud your glad refrain.
