A Consideration
"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me" (Psa_51:5).
David realized that his sinning was due to the fact of inbred sin; he knew that the external actions were brought on because of internal corruption. Sometimes we talk of the holiness of childhood; but, childhood is not holy. To be sure there is an innocency that pervades the life of a babe; but, a babe is not holy. It is not long until the child manifests its fallen nature. Sin soon crops out. Iniquity is soon revealed.
If the question comes up, "How can a little babe, dying in infancy, be saved?" We have but to remind you, that the sin of the babe is only inbred sin, inherited sin; and that when Jesus Christ died upon the Cross, He tasted death for every man. He took away the sin of the world. The Adamic sin is settled for the whole race. People are lost only because of personal sinning.
It was Job who asked the question, "Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or, who hath given understanding to the heart?"
Certainly, the truth and the wisdom that David possessed, did not come from his mother. It was the gift of God. He makes us to know wisdom, and He places within us the truth which He desires.
