0537. Delivered From Rebellion Against God's Word
Delivered From Rebellion Against God’s Word
"Because they rebelled against the Words of God, and contemned the counsel of the Most High:
"Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses" (Psa_107:11,Psa_107:13).
1. What a picture of sorrow and of suffering! Yet, it was all brought about by Israel’s rebellion against the Words of God. They rebelled and God left them to themselves. They would not have the Lord to reign over them, and God gave them up. "He brought down their hearts with labor; they fell down, and there was none to help." "They sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, they were bound in affliction and iron."
If one desires to see real anguish of soul and bitterness of spirit, let him find one who has once known the Lord, a truly Blood-washed and ransomed soul, but who has contemned the counsel of the Most High, and has rebelled against the words of God. Such an one will be brought low in anguish because, "Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth."
2. When Israel was brought low in her affliction, when she had drunk of the bitter cup of God’s judgment, then, in the hour of her trouble, she "cried unto the Lord and He saved her out of all her distresses." Psa_107:12 says, "They fell down, and there was none to help." There is never any one, but God, Who can help us in the hour of our real need.
"O to have no Christ, no Saviour;
No rock, no refuge nigh thee.
O to have no one to help you;
How dark the way must be."
How we should praise God, that those who have rebelled against the Word of the Lord, may have the joy bells set to ringing again, if they will only confess their sins and turn unto the Lord. He will save them out of their distresses.
