Praise God for His Wonderful Name

"Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore.

"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the Lord’s name is to be praised" (Psa_113:2-3).

How fitting that after we have given praise to the "works" of God, and to the "Word" of God, and to the "Worthy One," we should now sound forth the praise of His "name." When Christ comes, He has a name which is called, the "Word of God;" He bears another name, called "King of kings and Lord of lords." But there is yet another name. It is a name which no man knows. It is a name full of glory and of worship. This unrevealed name of Christ must carry with it, the fullest meaning of His marvelous and unfathomable riches of grace. That name will not be revealed until He comes again.

The Lord hath "given Him a name which is above every name;" and, when that name of Jesus is proclaimed, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that "Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father."

Most of the songs to-day which render praise to the name or names of our Lord, place emphasis upon the human name "Jesus." We sing, "The name of Jesus is so sweet." This is true. Yet, even to-day, the name Jesus is not the name which reveals the fullest blessings in Christ. We know Him now as the Lord Jesus Christ. We should give Him glory according to all the fullness of His wonderful names–the names He now bears.

The Psalm, before us, however, seems to anticipate not so much the name "Jesus" nor the name "Christ," nor any of the "Jehovah" titles. It is rather anticipating the name that our Lord shall wear, in the day of His crowning.

Our key verse says, "Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore." It also says, "From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised." Our Lord shall wear a name in the day of His triumphant glory, which will be the joy and praise of the whole earth.
