Praise God for His Wonderful Grace

"The Lord is high above all nations, and His glory above the Heavens.

"Who is like unto the Lord Our God, Who dwelleth on high!" (Psa_113:4-5).

Psalms 111-119, seem to give a recapitulation of the glory of Christ, step by step. They reveal the character of our Lord. We will note the distinctive steps set forth in Psalms 113.

1. Psa_113:5 : "Who dwelleth on high." The first picture we see of Christ is that of His co-equality with the Father. "He dwelleth on high." From all eternity Christ was with God and Christ was God.

2. Psa_113:6 : "Who humbleth Himself." We have now before us, Christ leaving the Father’s presence and becoming man. He is taking upon Himself the form of flesh, and humbling Himself as a servant. He is obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. The One Who dwelt "on high," came down to earth and dwelt among us, and "we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

3. Verse 7: "He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill." This is just what Christ did, He left the Father’s estate; He humbled Himself unto death, in order that He might put His arm of love beneath the lost, and raise them up. It is the same story that is revealed in Ephesians, chapter 2. We are "risen together with Christ." He takes our feet from the miry clay and places them on the Rock. He lifts us up out of the dust of despair, and out of the dunghill of sin.

4. Psa_113:8 : "That He may set him with princes, even with the princes of His people." The Lord Jesus is not content alone with saving us out of our sins, and with lifting us up; He also gives us a place among the Holy Ones at His own right hand in the Heavenly places. He sets us with princes.

When David took the throne he said, "Is there any left of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him?" He soon found Mephibosheth. He brought him from Lo-debar, the place of no pasture. He lifted him up from a dunghill. He raised him from the dust of his poverty and he gave him a seat at his own table. He restored unto him all that he had lost in the fall of his father, and his grandfather.

Evil-Merodach did lift up Jehoiachin of Judah out of prison. He set his throne above the thrones of the kings in Babylon and he gave him a daily allowance all the days of his life.

Jesus Christ has done for us more than David did; and more than Evil-Merodach did. He has quickened us, and He hath raised us up, and He hath given us a seat at His own right hand; and, we shall reign with Him as princes in His Kingdom.

5. Psa_113:9 : "He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children." This final picture shows the marvelous increase that shall fall to those who know the Lord during the days of His millennial glory. His people (Israel in particular) will be a light to the nations. Zion will travail and bring forth children. The world will be filled with the glory of God, as the waters that cover the sea.
