Israel’s Help–the Lord’s Keeping

"Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain" (Psa_127:1).

Israel must learn the lesson that her keeping is alone in God. More than once Israel had sought to rebuild her house, but she labored in vain. More than once Israel has sought to re-establish her city, but she labored in vain. Should Israel at this hour fulfil the hope of Zionism, and return, en masse to her land; should she once more labor to rebuild her temple–it would all be in vain. The days of antichrist lie ahead, and he will come against Jerusalem and undo the achievements of Zionism.

It is vain for Israel to "rise up early" and "sit up late." Her only recompense is eating the bread of sorrows. Let Israel return to her Lord, then she will find rest. "He giveth His beloved sleep." He will speak peace, when the enemies are at the very gate.

O Israel, why do you go to Egypt for help? Why do you say to the works of your own hands, "Ye are our gods"? Why do you appoint men as watchmen over your Zion?

Turn to the Lord. He alone can keep your city; He alone can help.
