The Rainbow Suggests That God’s Judgment Will Not Make a Full End
"And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain."
"Therefore we receiving a Kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear" (Heb_12:27-28).
The Second Coming of Christ is not the end of the world.
There is a time, after the thousand years, when the great white throne will be placed and the heaven and the earth will flee away. Then God will make a full end.
At that time the earth will melt with fervent heat, and the new heaven and the new earth will spring forth, but that time is far hence.
The thousand years, the reign of Christ upon the Davidic throne, the restoration of Israel, the redemption of the physical earth, must all precede that final day.
It is true, however, that this age in which we are now living, this the "Times of the Gentiles," this "Day of the Church," this "Age of the Spirit," this "Period of Grace," must end.
The Second Coming of Christ is the end of this age. The world has rejected Jesus Christ and the world must be judged.
God, however, will not make a full end. The rainbow about the throne assures this fact. There is to be another age following this one; an age when Christ will be once more among men.
Illustration: An old negro stopped us during the days when Halley’s comet was sweeping through the heavens, and with startled countenance, he asked: "Do yo’ think that comet is goin’ to strike the earth?" We asked him "Why?" He said: "Some of these white men have been telling me that the end of the world has done come." We assured his heart. We told him that he need not fear, that before the end of the world, Christ must reign one thousand years. The old man’s face lightened up, as he assured us of his great relief.
The Rainbow sign is sure–God will not make a full end.
The day of Jacob’s wrath will be a day of deep despair. There will be tribulation and sorrow and anguish, such as there has never been upon the face of the earth until this time. There will be a period of darkness and of gloominess, of catastrophic judgments, and cataclysmic shakings, such as the earth has never known, but God will not make a full end.
From out of the wreckage of the flood, God said, "Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth." From out the wreckage of the coming great tribulation, God will again replenish the earth.
Thank God for the Rainbow about the throne–
Although great tribulation
Shall sweep through earth and sky,
The rainbow of God’s grace assures
That peace and rest is nigh;
For God’s great wrath and vengeance,
Will not fully make an end,
But after tribulation,
God’s grace He’ll surely send.
