0601. The Call of the Rainbow

0601. The Call of the Rainbow

The Call of the Rainbow

"All day long have I stretched forth My hands onto a disobedient and gainsaying people" (Rom_10:21).

The rainbow tells us of grace and mercy toward the lost. Sin must be punished, and yet "where sin abounded grace did much more abound," and even while judgments fall mercy holds fast her hand’s.

There is in all of this the call of the rainbow which is the call of grace. How can one still hold out against God when God offers grace to those who deserve wrath?

When the wrath falls there will surely be a place to hide. Within the circle of the rainbow, within the covert there is safety from the storm.

A man shall be a refuge from the storm, and the shadow of a great rock in a dreary land.

Let all men hear the rainbow’s call, and hide themselves against the day of coming grace.

Oh, Rainbow, that God’s grace doth bring,

Thy call comes loud and long;

A call to shelter ‘neath the wing

Of Him, Whose arm is strong;

A call, our praises loud to ring,

In everlasting song.
