When the King Comes Back Righteousness Will Reign

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them" (Isa_11:6).

Men to-day, are seeking to establish human righteousness. Never has such a titanic effort been put forth; never, so much money spent; never so much oratory used, in behalf of civic, social and world righteousness, as to-day.

Man has done some things toward cleaning up the filth of the world. The United States, at least, has gone dry. It is getting so in our country that one could hardly be elected to the position of dog catcher, unless he was a prohibitionist.

The world is daffy on social regeneration.

The church has joined hands with the world, and is to-day putting forth a strenuous and combined effort, under the name of Social Service, in behalf of general world betterment.

Satan himself is "transformed into an angel of light" and his ministers are transformed into "the ministers of righteousness."

Every man who wears the cloth and bears the title of a minister, is not God’s minister. The woods are full of the ministers of satan. These ministers preach "clean up" and "be good" and "get right," with great zest.

Of course the righteousness they proclaim is not the righteousness of Christ made possible through His Cross.

It is not the righteousness of Christ, imputed to the believer.

The righteousness of which they speak is foreign to Calvary; it knows no need of atoning Blood, it recognizes no repentance, and it demands no faith.

Will this world-righteousness succeed? Impossible.

We read: "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse."

We read again: "Iniquity shall abound."

Human betterment schemes may succeed temporarily, but they are all doomed to be overwhelmed by a deluge of iniquity such as the world has never known since the days of Noah and of Lot Illustration: Last winter, my wife told me to get the shovel and get busy, for the city fathers had decreed that each citizen must keep his walks free from snow. We got busy accordingly, and shoveled off the snow. A few hours later, the wife again said, "You better get your shovel and get busy." We looked, and behold, it had snowed again.

These reformers get busy too, and every time they shovel off the snow, made filthy by the feet of men, there is an increasing need for shovels.

But when the King comes back, righteousness will be "upon the bells of the horses."

When the King’s sword is hot in the heart of His enemies then "the world will learn righteousness."

When the King comes back, "the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

Then, "Why say ye not a word, about the bringing back of the King?"

Can righteousness

And faithfulness

The great, big world with glory bless;

Till Jesus comes?

No, but we tell,

The chorus swell,

That righteousness on earth will dwell

When Jesus comes.
