0654. The Intensity of His Claim to Holiness
The Intensity of His Claim to Holiness
"And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet" (Exo_3:2-5).
God is intense as we draw near to His plane of holiness, yet that is where we all should stand. The call of God is for us to separate ourselves from the world. The will of God is that "we should know how to possess our vessels in sanctification and true holiness." Young people should never take part in anything that soils their garments of separation and Scriptural sanctification.
Illustration: Mrs. Whittemore stood, dressed for the ball, before her little girl. In answer to the mother’s query: "How do you like my dress?" the little girl replied, "Mamma, you are not going that way, are you?" Mrs. Whittemore answered, "Why yes, dear, this is the way to go." She went on with her husband to the dance, but the arrow of conviction had entered her soul. Finally, she left the ball and hastened to the bedside of her little girl. She kissed the sleeping form and falling upon her knees, forever gave up the world and yielded her life to God. Twelve months later, Mrs. Whittemore wrote Wilbur Chapman, and told him that, during the past twelve months, she had led one hundred souls to God. Was that not far better than living in the world?
"Take the world but give me Jesus,
That dear Friend Who loves me so,
All the world I give to follow Jesus,
Through this world below."
One other illustration may be used. A young lady was preparing to leave for a prominent social function. She had just put on her hat which was sprinkled with some kind of star dust. Her little sister said to her, "Sister, do you know what I was thinking about? I was just wondering if you will have any stars in your crown." This led to the older girl’s conversion.
"O the bitter pain and sorrow,
That the time could ever be,
When I proudly said to Jesus,
All of self and none of Thee.
But He sought me, I beheld Him,
Dying on the accursed tree,
And my feeble heart said faintly,
Some of self and some of Thee.
Higher than the highest mountain,
Deeper than the deepest sea,
Lord, Thy love at last has conquered,
None of self and all cf Thee."
