Christ Interpreted the Father in His Words

"He that sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things I have heard of Him" (Joh_8:26).

Our Lord never spake as men speak. We, who are of the earth, may, sometimes, voice the words of God, but we do not always voice them. Peter may at times, in his statements, have rightly interpreted God; but when Peter said, "Pity Thyself, Lord," he was untrue to God, and Christ said to him, "Get thee behind Me, satan" (Mat_16:23).

Jesus Christ spake exclusively the Words of God. His very Words were "spirit and they were life." He and He alone could say "I am the Truth."

On one occasion, Christ said, "The Word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me" (Joh_14:24),

Jesus Christ also said, "Even as the Father said unto Me, so I speak" (Joh_12:50).

It is beautiful to follow the Lord Jesus as He walked among men, and to remember the words which He spoke–words manifesting the heart of God.

Christ never uttered a prayer outside of the Word of God, Christ never uttered a sentiment that was not the express Word of God, When Christ said, "Suffer the little children to come unto Me," He was expressing the same heart that is set forth in the Old Testament, when God said, "And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand?" God loved little children in the days of yore, the same as Christ loved them, when He took them in His arms and blessed them.

Christ said: "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." In this, He expressed the heart of the same God Who, in Old Testament days, said: "Look unto Me, all ye ends of the earth, and be ye saved, for I am God."

Thus, all the way through, the word’s of Christ are the words of the Father, and therefore the words of Christ interpreted the Father.

O Word of Christ, O precious Word,

Sweeter than mortal ever heard,

Sharper than a two-edged sword,

The holy, gracious, living Word.

The Word of Christ, from dale or hill,

Set forth the Father’s holy will;

The Father’s purpose did fulfil,

The Father’s precepts did instil.
