0678. The Office of Angels
The Office of Angels
"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to them who shall be heirs of salvation?" (Heb_1:14).
Angels certainly are filled with service in behalf of the saints of God. In Psa_34:7 we read: "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them." How marvelous is this! The Lord our Saviour is round about us, a wall of fire–but not the Lord alone, but the Lord and His ministering angels.
Psalms 91 is a favorite with many, and this Psalm, in Psa_91:11, gives that gracious promise, "For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."
Blessed ministry–the heritage of the saints. We may never know the many, many times we have been delivered from unseen dangers by the angels of God. An engineer tells of his engine exploding under him, as he was running forty miles an hour. His fireman was instantly killed. He himself, was thrown up far above the telegraph poles. He said that as he was going up, he quoted Psa_91:11, over in his mind, and asked God to let the angels bear him up. As he came down he fell across the many telegraph wires, and then bounded off, and finally came to the ground in a soft mud puddle, almost unhurt.
Certainly, we, who know and love the Lord, will never be able to conceive of the many deliverances which have been ours, through the ministration of angels, until we "know as we are known."
