0684. An Angel Ministers Unto Christ in the Garden
An Angel Ministers Unto Christ in the Garden
"And prayed, saying, Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine be done. And there appeared an angel unto Him, from Heaven strengthening Him" (Luk_22:42-43).
How tender is this ministration of an angel! There were untold myriads of angels who would gladly have rendered this sacred service. Angels were ever willing and ready to succor the Lord Jesus. If the angels nourished Elijah, the servant of their Lord, how much more would they nourish the Lord God of Elijah.
A few hours later when the Lord rebuked Peter, telling him to put up his sword, Christ said: "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father and He shall place beside Me more than twelve legions of angels?" (Mat_26:53).
The angels stood ready to obey the will of God, but they never once went to succor Christ, unless He asked it of the Father. As far as possible, place yourself in the realm of the angelic host, imagine their tender solicitude for the Son of God as He hastened on toward the Cross. Willing to succor, they were also obedient to serve, and as they beheld God making Christ’s soul an offering for sin; as they saw Christ Who loved His own, even unto death, pressing on toward His final suffering, they bowed their heads and worshiped, and waited the outworkings of the will of God.
