Christ Gave Commandment in the Spirit

"Until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Spirit, had given commandments unto the Apostles whom He had chosen" (Act_1:2).

You will note that the first thing in the life of Christ is that He was born of the Spirit; then, He was baptized of the Spirit; then, filled with the Spirit; then, led of the Spirit; then, He served in the Spirit; then, He was raised by the Spirit. Now, last of all, He gives commandment in the Spirit.

1. The scene is a striking one. Christ was standing on the Mount of Olives with the disciples gathered around Him. There He gave His final word; "Go ye into all the world and disciple all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." This commission was given "through the Spirit."

If the commission of Christ for the world-wide propagation of the Gospel was given through the Spirit; then the commission reveals the purpose of the Holy Spirit toward lost men.

2. The Holy Spirit is the active agent of the Trinity, in evangelizing the world. It was the Holy Spirit Who said, at the conference at Antioch, "Separate Me Paul and Barnabas for the work whereunto I have called them." It was the Holy Spirit Who said unto Philip, "Go in the way toward Gaza, which is desert." The Spirit of God is always leading the Spirit-filled believer to do personal work, to hand out tracts, to preach on the streets, or, to do anything and everything which can be done for the salvation of the lost.
