0711. The Indwelling Spirit
The Indwelling Spirit
"And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your heart" (Gal_4:6).
The indwelling Holy Spirit presents a fundamental doctrine. It is a doctrine that is set forth in numerous passages. Read 1Co_3:16 : "Know ye not that ye are the temple of the Living God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"
Read 1Co_6:19 : "What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God?"
Read Rom_8:9 : "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His."
The three passages above, suffice. If we had in our home, a choice guest, we certainly would want to recognize him and to show him all courtesy. How then about our Heavenly Guest? The word Holy Ghost, is, indeed, Holy Guest. Have we recognized His indwelling? Have we done Him honor? Have we turned over to Him the keys of every room of our heart and life?
When Christ was born, the Bible records that "there was no room for Him in the inn." Have we treated the Holy Spirit much better? Have we given Him room? If so, how much room? Have we reserved any chamber in our heart-life for ourselves? Have we shut Him out? Have we locked the door and put the keys in our pocket?
Think of how much the indwelling of the Spirit should mean to us. He will take of the things of Christ and show them unto us; He will instruct us in the way that we should go; He will teach us the deep things of God, written in His Word.
Let us practice the listening ear. May we set ourselves on our towers and listen and hear what He, the Holy Spirit, will say unto us. And when He speaks, let us be quick to obey.
