0724. The Predictions Concerning Christ's First Coming
The Predictions Concerning Christ’s First Coming
"And He said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me" (Luk_24:44).
The birth of our Lord and the city of His birth, and many events of His life, as well as His death, resurrection, and His returning to reign, are all equally outlined in the prophetic Scriptures.
We will mention but a few of the striking prophecies concerning the Lord Jesus.
He was to be the son of Adam, of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob and of David. The genealogical table shows that all of this was literally fulfilled.
Jesus Christ was to be born of a Virgin, and His name was to be called Emmanuel. This was also fulfilled.
It was foretold that He was to be born in Bethlehem of Judea.
He was to be despised and rejected of men.
He was to be cut off from the land of the living.
His hands and His feet were to be pierced.
His garments were to be parted, for His vesture they were to cast lots (see Psa_22:7, Psa_22:18).
He was to delight in His Father’s will (see Psa_40:8).
He was to be a light to the Gentiles (Isa_49:6).
These Scriptures and many more concerning our Lord’s birth, life, death, resurrection, return and reign all pronounce the Word Wonderful.
When one studies the Bible and finds in the Old Testament twenty-four distinct prophecies concerning Jesus Christ, which were fulfilled in one day, the day upon which He died, they are amazed at the fact that God foreknew and foretold the details of the crucifixion but not this alone.
Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord,
The coming of Christ didst foretell;
How Jesus would suffer and die on the Cross,
To save the believer from hell.
