Christ Seated at the Right Hand of God, As the Son of Man

"And said, Behold, I see the Heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God" (Act_7:56).

There are three Scriptures we desire to employ:

1. For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey (see Mar_13:34).

2. What and if you shall see the Son of Man ascend up where He was before? (see Joh_6:62).

3. Behold I see the Heavens open, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God (see Act_7:56).

Just here there is a thought, a truth, that should be emphasized. In His relationship to the Church, Jesus Christ is never referred to as the Son of Man. The Epistles, which speak of the Church, never use the expression Son of Man. This is true because the Church is a Heavenly Body, a people called out of the world, a people who are not of the world. Our calling is Heavenly, our citizenship is Heavenly, our rewards are Heavenly, and our eternal destiny is Heavenly.

However, there is a sense in which our Lord still bears the title Son of Man.

In the above passages we behold Jesus Christ as raised, ascended, and seated in behalf of the race as a whole. Since His resurrection, He has not broken off His relationship to men. We know that the risen Christ bears a body received in His resurrection. The body is a glorified body; it is a bloodless body; but it is a body of flesh and bones. Thus our Lord is still identified with the race because of the resurrection body He bears. He is also identified with the race because He is exalted, a Prince and a Saviour, in behalf of men.

Thank God for such a Saviour. The world has a representation with God–Jesus Christ the Righteous, Jesus Christ the Son of Man. The world is not shut out from approach to the Father.
