0808. The Life and Its Security
The Life and Its Security
"For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God" (Col_3:3).
The Life which we possess is hid with Christ in God. There are several important truths in line with the security of the New Life.
1. The Life is expressly stated to be an eternal life. Some passages which make this plain are as follows:
Joh_3:15 : "Have eternal life."
Joh_3:16 : "Whosoever believeth * * have everlasting life."
Joh_3:36 : "He that believeth * * hath everlasting life."
Joh_5:24 : "Hath everlasting life."
1Jn_5:11 : "God hath given to us eternal life."
Scriptures could easily be multiplied, but that is unnecessary. The Life in Christ Jesus is eternal, everlasting, unto the ages of the ages. It is not a life possessed to-day and concluded to-morrow. When once a sinner receives Jesus Christ and is born again, he possesses a life that will live as long as Christ lives.
2. The Life in Christ Jesus is a life secured by God. There are certain Scriptures which show how God secures the life.
(1) It is secured by the life of Christ. "Because I live, ye shall live also" (Joh_14:19).
(2) It is secured by the Father's mighty hand. "I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish * * My Father * * is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand" (Joh_10:28).
(3) It is secured by an unfaltering love. "Neither, death nor life * * shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus" (Rom_8:38-39).
(4) It is secured by an unfailing will. "Father, I will that they also, who Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory" (Joh_17:24).
(5) It is secured by the sealing of the Spirit. "Sealed * * until the redemption of the purchased possession" (Eph_1:13-14).
(6) It is secured by the predestining purposes of God. "For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son" (Rom_8:29).
3. The Life in Christ Jesus, is a life that has passed out of death. "He that heareth * * believeth * * is passed out of death into life" (Joh_5:24).
Death is the wages of sin; death is the finished product of sin–the believer has passed out of death.
Death is the word that stands for sorrow and sighing and final separation; the believer has passed out of death.
Death and hades are to be cast into the lake of fire; thank God, the believer has passed out of death.
Life is the antithesis of death; life is deliverance from every shadow that lurks in the valley of death–the believer has passed into life.
Life is the partaking of the Divine nature; life is Christ in us the hope of glory–the believer has passed into life.
Life is eternal fellowship with God and the Lamb in the New Jerusalem; it is the unhindered partaking of all the riches of glory–the believer has passed into life.
"Heaven now for me–forever Christ and Heaven–
The endless NOW begun–
No promise–but a gift eternal given,
Because the work is done."
