0837. The Faith That has Works
The Faith That has Works
"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone" (Jam_2:17).
Faith is not a cold, formal expression of the head. It is a living vital pulsing of the life. Faith is active.
Faith that does not work is not faith, it is dead.
The man with the withered hand believed Christ and was healed; his faith is seen in the stretched forth hand.
The lame man was healed by faith in Christ's name, and he was made strong. His faith is seen in his "leaping and praising God."
The sick of the palsy was healed by faith. His faith was manifested by his taking up his bed and walking.
The blind man, Bartimaeus, received his sight by faith. Christ said to him, "Thy faith hath made thee whole." Bartimaeus showed his faith by casting away his garment and coming to Jesus; by telling forth his desire and by following Jesus in the way.
The eunuch was saved, was baptized and afterward he went on his way rejoicing.
The jailer was saved and arose and washed the stripes of both Paul and Silas, and was baptized.
Saul of Tarsus was saved, baptized, and then immediately he preached in the synagogues that Jesus was the Christ.
Faith in every realm is a faith that acts. Thus if you show me a man that has faith, I will show you a man who has works. If you say to me that such an one is justified by faith, I will say to you, I will see the fact of his justification in his works.
Faith seeks to do nothing to become a Christian, but faith having obtained salvation, does everything that becomes a Christian.
Faith sees the fields whitened unto the harvest and plunges in to the reaping.
"The fields all are ripening, and far and wide
The world now is waiting the harvest-tide:
But reapers are few and work is great,
And much will be lost should the harvest wait.
"So come with your sickles, ye Christian men,
And gather together the golden grain;
Toil on till the Lord of the harvest come,
Then share ye His joy in the "harvest-home."
