The Faith That Keeps the Faith

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (2Ti_4:7).

Back of all apostasy from the faith, is a lack of faith. It is unbelief that discounts and disclaims the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

A creed is (credo), a statement of what I believe. A confession of faith is a statement of the scope of my faith.

Paul said: "I believed, and therefore have I spoken." A man without a creed is a man without a message.

After one has convictions as to his faith, he must have the faith and courage to keep that faith.

These are days of week knees and trembling limbs. Men shake in their shoes as they face the mockers of these last days. They may hold to the faith down in their hearts but they do not hold forth the faith with lips. What we need just now is a race of men true and tried; a race of men with iron in their blood.

Where are the days of the martyrs–men who had a faith and unswerving fidelity for it. They counted not their lives dear, so that Christ might not be defamed.

God tells us to contend earnestly for the faith once for all delivered unto the saints.

This admonition is needed now, because the apostasy has come. Men who deny every vital fundamental of the faith are standing behind sacred desks defaming the Book. Many are saying it does not matter what men believe. Some cry loud for a harmony and a unity builded upon "softpeddling" the fundamentals.

May God help us.

"Faith of our fathers! living still

In spite of dungeon, fire and sword:

O how our hearts beat high with joy

Whene'er we hear that glorious word

Faith of our fathers! holy faith!

We will be true to thee till death!

"Our fathers chained in prisons dark,

Were still in heart and conscience free;

How sweet would be their children's fate.

If they, like them, could die for thee!

Faith of our fathers! holy faith!

We will be true to thee till death!"
