826. The Gospel

“The Power of God Unto Salvation” Rom_1:16

Baron Uxkill, of Russia, has put on record that when an infidel, some uneducated evangelists came on his estate, and were the means in God’s hands of effecting such a transformation in the lives of his workmen, that although he cared not for Christ, nor the things which belong to Him, he said, “Anything which will make drunken men sober, and dishonest men honest, and immoral men moral, and indolent men industrious, I want to have on my estate.”

The Gospel in its onward progress in the power of the Spirit—

1. Turned persecuting Saul into praying Paul—Act_9:19.

2. Turned the idolatrous Thessalonians into servants of the Lord—1Th_1:9-10.

3. Turned the early Christians into consecrated believers—Act_4:33-37.

4. Turned the demon-possessed sinners in Samaria into rejoicing believers—Act_8:5-8.

5. Turned a puzzled courtier into a devoted and rejoicing chancellor of the exchequer—Act_8:27-39.

6. Turned a cruel jailer into a kind minister—Act_16:24, Act_16:34.

7. Turned the witch-craft people of Ephesus into confessing adherents of the Lord—Act_19:18.
