0848. The Peace Which Is in Christ Jesus

0848. The Peace Which Is in Christ Jesus

The Peace Which Is in Christ Jesus

Follow Peace (Heb_12:14).

A False Peace (Jer_8:11).

The Basis of Peace (Joh_20:19-20).

The Prince of Peace (Isa_9:6).

The God of Peace (Rom_15:33).

The Peace of God (Col_3:15).

The peace in Christ Jesus is "the fruit of the Spirit" (Eph_5:22). How useless it is to seek the graces of Christ apart from the Holy Spirit of Christ. A bitter fountain cannot bring forth sweet water.

There are many exceedingly precious Scriptural promises concerning "peace." The leader might emphasize these in a most helpful way.

1. Consider God, as the God of peace, in a threefold way.

1. The God of peace make your perfect (see Heb_13:20-21).

2. The God of peace sanctify you wholly (see 1Th_5:23).

3. The God of peace shall bruise satan shortly (see Rom_16:20).

2. Consider the peace of God, as the gift of the God of peace.

4. The peace of God which passeth all understanding (see Php_4:7).

5. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts (see Col_3:15).

3. Consider Christ the perfection of peace.

6. The Prince of Peace (see Isa_9:6).

7. The Lord of peace (see 2Th_3:16).

8. He is our peace (see Eph_2:14-15).

4. Consider how Christ left us peace.

9. My peace I give unto you (see Joh_14:27).

10. Peace be unto you (see Joh_20:19).

11. The fruit of the Spirit is peace (see Gal_5:22).

5. Consider how peace should be proclaimed.

12. Preaching peace by Christ Jesus (see Act_10:36).

13. The Gospel of peace (see Rom_10:15).

14. Acquaint now thyself with Him and be at peace (see Job_22:21).

6. Consider how God wishes peace among men.

15. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (see Psa_122:6).

16. Peace on earth, good will to men (see Luk_2:14).

17. The Kingdom of God is peace (see Rom_14:17).

7. Consider how we should seek peace.

18. Follow peace with all men (see Heb_12:14).

19. Blessed are the peacemakers (see Mat_5:9).

20. I will both lay me down in peace and sleep (see Psa_4:8).

We quote a beautiful little poem from the German author Gerhardt Ter Steegen, which has been blessed to many lives.

"How sweet, when with a childlike grace

We walk before the Father's face,

And seek but Him to please!

How sweet, when we to all below

A meek and quiet spirit show,

And live in perfect peace!

"How sweet it is, retired and free,

In such a desert place to be

And hear the voice of peace!

How sweet, when undisturbed we rest,

Like children on a parent's breast,

And from our own works cease!

"O precious, sweet eternity,

Thou realm of peace, how happy he

Who Thee within hath found!

My spirit, in thy silence blest,

Shall steadfast in concealment rest,

Till life hath reached its bound!"
