0877. 2. Pentecost
2. Pentecost
"And when the Day of Pentecost was fully come" (Act_2:1).
There were three feasts which preceded the Feast of Pentecost. First the Passover, secondly the Unleavened Bread, and thirdly the First Fruit. The Passover spoke of salvation by blood. The Unleavened Bread spoke of our daily sustenance by Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. The Feast of the First Fruit spoke primarily of Christ's resurrection. "For now is Christ raised, the Firstfruit of them that slept." Pentecost, however, was the type of the descending Spirit. When our Lord Jesus ascended on high, He poured forth the Spirit. It is in this risen Christ and the descending Spirit that we have salvation from the power of sin, and this salvation is set forth in beautiful type by the Feast of Pentecost.
