2. The Church As a Body–Salvation Present
"And He is the Head of the Body, the Church" (Col_1:18).
The Church is a body. It is composed of many members. "For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another" (Rom_12:4).
"For we being many are one bread, and one body" (1Co_10:17).
"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ" (1Co_12:12).
This Body, the Church has a Head. Its Head is Christ. In Eph_1:22-23, we read, "And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the Church, which is His Body." The relationship of the Church as a body to Christ, the Head, is easily discerned. It is not the Christ of Calvary of which we now speak, but it is Christ risen, Christ ascended, and Christ seated at the right hand of God. Whenever we think of the Church as a body, we think of our salvation in its relationship to the risen Lord.
