0955. The Left Behind–Their Sorrow
The Left Behind–Their Sorrow
"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven with His mighty angels,
"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ!" (2Th_1:7-8).
There is a great contrast between the joys of those raptured and the anguish of those left behind. Following the rapture of the saints, the days of tribulation will come with great rapidity and darkness will cover the earth with great speed. There are certain things which will mark that day.
1. It will be a day of satanic domination. In the midst of the period the devil himself will be cast to the earth. The antichrist will assume great authority and the false prophet will work marvelous miracles among men. During these days the antichrist will place his hands upon commercialism. No man can buy or sell unless he bears the mark of the beast and carries the number of his name.
2. It will be a time of untold sorrow. All joy will be darkened. The mirth of the land will be gone. There will be crying in the streets. During this period a great angel will be heard saying, "If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive the mark on his forehead or in his hand the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation."
3. It will be a time of severe judgments. The vials of the wrath of God will be poured forth upon men. There will be judgment such as has never been known among men. People today may mock the doctrine of the blessed hope, but when Christ is come and when the saints are raptured the ones left behind will weep and wail and begin to cry unto the rocks and the mountains saying, "Fall upon us and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of His wrath is come." When Noah had entered into the ark, God shut the door.
The cries of terror that came from the people could not avail–the flood overwhelmed them.
May God help the wicked, even now to turn and to be saved. It will be, indeed, a sad lot to the ones left behind.
