Conditions of the End Times As It Was in the Days of Noah–of Lot

Let us imagine our Lord standing, nearly two thousand years ago, and discussing the world conditions which will mark His return to this earth. Christ did not hesitate to tell just what such conditions would be. He knew that if history did not verify His statements, that He would be discounted in the ages to come as a mere "dreamer," and a prophesier, given to gloomy forebodings. Yet Christ spoke of coming catastrophes in plain, positive terms on more than one occasion. We have before us now, however, a more remarkable thing–our Lord reached back into history at least twenty-three hundred years and after describing those days of sin and shame, He reached on through what has already proved to be two thousand years, and said–"So shall it be."

Our study will reveal that Christ spoke correctly. The days in which we are now living are fast heading up in the very conditions which marked the days of Noah and of Lot, and which will mark conditions, as our Lord returns.

Two things should be stressed:

1. There is in these words of Christ a death blow to the evolutionary theory. That there have been many improvements is true, but that these improvements mean a definite advance either in the mind or morals of man is not true. Egypt, Greece, Rome, each, in turn, reached a high state of culture, but each rose only to fall. To-day man's day is fast reaching the apex of achievement, but man's day will surely collapse, yea, is collapsing into the deepest of immoralities and God-forgetfulness.

What will the evolutionist do when Christ spans more than forty centuries with the two simple word's–"As–So," and permits no room for human advance, at least so far as moral conditions are considered.

2. There is in these words of Christ a death blow to the boasted propaganda of the reformer and of socialized Christianity. Men vainly seek to fasten upon the world the spirit and passion of Christ, for the world is rushing away from Christ and into the vortex of iniquities, unequalled since the days of Noah and of Lot.

It is folly for any one to charge the Gospel or the Church with the moral lapse of mankind. It is foolish to say that the Gospel has failed in our day, just as "conscience" failed in Noah's day. The truth is this–man has failed alike under "conscience" and under "the Gospel."

One other thing should be said by way of introduction: While the world is hastening on toward the darkness of Noachic and Sodomic days, yet out of the world God is calling a people for Himself, which are not of the world, but are yet in the world. Thus, the two truths are both stated in Dan_12:10 : "Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly." Keep both statements always in mind lest you become onesided in your view of conditions among men.
