1006. What Ezekiel Says About Christ As King
What Ezekiel Says About Christ As King
"And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one King shall be King to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all" (Eze_37:22)
Ezekiel is the next Prophet. We will quote from chapter 37. In chapter 36, we have the foretold restoration of Israel, whom God hath scattered among the nations. Then, in chapter 37, we read: "Take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions: and join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand." But some one says what does all this mean? The Word of God leaves no doubt.
"Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: and I will make them one nation upon the mountains of Israel; and one King shall be King over them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all." Let us believe God, that it shall be even as He hath said.
Postmillennialism robs Israel of these promises. Yet the promises are so clearly stated that a wayfaring man, though a fool need not err therein. Everyone knows that this prophecy has not been fulfilled. From the days of Jeroboam, and Rehoboam, Israel has not dwelt as one nation in the land; neither has one king been king of them all. We may not know where the ten tribes are, but God knows. God has promised and He is abundantly able to fulfil His promises.
But who is this king? Ezekiel, like the other Prophets, tells us: "And David My servant shall be King over them." This David must mean the Lord Jesus, our greater David. However, we have reason to believe that the David of old, may, in his resurrection body, have part in this reign, for Jer_3:25 adds, "And My servant David shall be their prince forever." So David's greater Son, will be King, and David himself, will be prince.
