What Amos and Obadiah Say About Christ As King

"And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the Kingdom shall be the Lord's" (Oba_1:21)

1. Amos is next. Note chapter 9. "Lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, * * yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth." This we know is being literally fulfilled. Israel is scattered the world over. But read the promise: "In that day, will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old."

Following, comes the wonderful description of their glory in coming days; but, lest some false critic may say that these gracious words refer to and were fulfilled in some of the many past and partial restorations of Israel, the Holy Spirit adds in the last verse of this chapter, which is also the last of this Book: "And I will plant them upon their own land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God."

All other restorations have been not only partial, but ineffective. They were always driven out again. This promise must therefore be still future. Happy is he who believes, and doubts not.

2. Obadiah is a little Book of one chapter, and yet the hope of Israel is to be found therein. Note the 17th verse: "But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions." Good! The story in this little Book is the same as that of the others. But is the Lord Jesus, King? Listen to the last verse: "And saviours shall come up on Mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the Kingdom shall be the Lord's."
