“Repaired Every One Over Against His House” (Neh_3:28)
Christian workers will find in Nehemiah 4 how service for the Lord should be carried out.
1. The Soul of Work is the resolute mind of determination—Neh_5:6.
2. The Worth of Work is evidenced when our enemies try to hinder us in it—Neh_5:11.
3. The Support of Work is God Himself, which is illustrated in the individual sense of responsibility—Neh_5:15.
4. The Fellowship of Work is recognised when we work with others as well as doing our own work—Neh_5:16.
5. The Proportion of Work is illustrated in the three things which characterised the builders under Nehemiah—namely, the trowel of labour, the sword of defence, and the trumpet of alarm—Neh_5:17, Neh_5:18. See how these are brought out in Ephesians 6, Eph_6:8, Eph_6:17, Eph_6:18.
6. The Dependence of Work. The workers being separated from each other by reason of their several tasks, when danger was near they gathered together, and knew God would fight for them—Neh_3:19, Neh_3:20.
7. The Perseverance of Work. Nehemiah and his labourers did not consult their own ease, but stolidly and continuously worked till the task was completed—Neh_3:21, Neh_3:23.
