119. Why Was Twelve the Number of the Apostles?

All of the twelve disciples were Jews. Their number was doubtless fixed upon after the analogy of the twelve tribes. They were mostly Galileans, taken from the common people, and some at least had been disciples oi John the Baptist. (See Mat_12:25; Joh_1:35; Mat_19:28.)
