1216. From All Sin–The Sweep of the Atonement

1216. From All Sin–The Sweep of the Atonement

From All Sin–The Sweep of the Atonement

"Being then made free from sin ye became the servants of righteousness" (Rom_6:18).

There are those who vainly imagine that they must help out the Calvary work of our Lord Jesus Christ. To be sure Christ died, but we, they say, must supplement the work of the Cross by our tears and testimony, by our service and sacrifice. This is preposterous! If the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin, there is nothing left for us to do, so far as the blight of sin is concerned.

There are two things which may be said.

1. The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from any sin. Certainly the word "all," will include the word "any." When we say the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from any sin we mean that there is no sin so great, so heinous, so despicable, but what the Blood can cover it.

There are some who fed that they have gone too far and have sinned too much. They think the Lord can save little children, or, the "goody-good" among adults, but that great sinners, and chief sinners can find no forgiveness.

Christ put the lie to this deception when He walked in Bethesda and sought from among the many who were sick, the sickest of them all. It was the man who had been thirty-eight years sick, whom He healed.

The Word of God clearly says, "Though your sins be as scarlet (and sins can scarcely be of a darker hue than scarlet), they shall be as white as snow."

The Word of God gives us a statement from Paul: "This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief." Certainly none need stay away from the Cross of Calvary because they have grievously sinned. The Lord Himself said, "All sins shall be forgiven"–that is, any sin that a man may commit shall be forgiven him, excepting the sin against the Holy Ghost. The Blood of Jesus Christ will save from any sin, excepting the one which Christ excepted, the sin against the Holy Ghost.

2. The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from every sin. If no one sin can shut us from God, what about an accumulation of sins? One sin multiplied by another sin, and another and another. Will the Blood cleanse from all sin, every sin? Yes, the Lord bundles all our sins together, both inbred sin and personal sins, and He assures us that the Blood can cleanse from all.

If there are those who in sheer despair, have been weighed down with the burden and the bondage and the banishment of sin, let them fall at the Cross of Jesus Christ. "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

"There is life for a look, at the Crucified One,

There is life at this moment for thee;

Then look, sinner, look, unto Christ and be saved,

Unto Him Who hath died on the Tree."
