Sin Enters Into the World–Righteousness Enters Into the World

"As by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin" (Rom_5:12, f. c.).

1. "By one man sin entered into the world." When God addressed sinning Eve, He said: "What is this that thou hast done?"

Why did not our first parents stop and consider the entail of their sin? It is impossible for the human mind to look back over the centuries and to gather up the awful harvest of Adam's transgression. The whole world is strewn with the wreckage.

There is not a tear that has ever been shed, that is not the harvest of Adam's sin.

There is not a sigh, not a shudder, not a sorrow that is not a resultant of Adam's sin.

There is not a crime, not a horror, not a holocaust that is not the outgrowth of Adam's sin.

The river of horrors began to flow from the Garden of Eden. It has flowed on and on, with ever-widening and deepening effect, and the whole world is deluged in the woe of its waters.

2. By Jesus Christ righteousness entered into the world. When Jesus Christ was born of the virgin there entered into the world the very embodiment of righteousness. Of His birth it was written: "Therefore that holy thing that shall be born of thee."

The Lord Jesus Christ was the first One to walk the land, Who was without sin, Who did no sin, and from Whom there could come none of the results of sin.

Jesus Christ was not only righteous, but from Him there has flowed a river of righteousness, that, with ever-increasing depth and width, has swept its way through the whole world.

We do not teach that, little by little, the river of sin that flowed from Adam's fall, will be overwhelmed by the river of righteousness which flows from the Lord Jesus Christ.

We do teach that now both rivers are running through the earth. Sin and every vestige of its horrible carnage shall yet be utterly removed, but not by over-prevailing righteousness. Judgments will overwhelm the wicked. The devil and all his angels, sinful men and all their progeny, will be cast into the lake of fire. The earth shall itself be burned with fire, and a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness will tome to view.

As in Adam sin entered and prevailed, much more shall that righteousness which entered in Christ Jesus prevail. After death and hell are cast into the lake of fire, righteousness will live and reign for evermore.
